The history of the REDAD-line is short and fascinating: The bull REDAD who had 50% RH-blood was used for planned mating in 1980 to some extent. The bull himself comes from the Red-Holstein bull JAMES-RED out of a daughter of the Simmental bull DIAMANT who was famous for the transmission of excellent type traits. Out of the 21 tested sons resulted the two top sires RADI and RENNER. RADI was used for planned mating because of his balanced performance, RENNER was not used for planned mating because altough he had a high milk performance he showed clear drawbacks as far as the fat and protein content in the milk were concerned. Nevertheless over many years also some RENNER-sons were tested. Last but not least both bulls brought about excellent sires. On the mother side this line will influence Fleckvieh-breeding significantly over the next years. The REDAD-line brings a high milk performance and a reliable hereditary performance. The beef values are better than average. The milkability is about average ,the cell count often less than average. As far as the type traits and especially the quality of the udder are concerned, this line is much better than average. Although there still remains a small percentage of Red-Holstein blood, it can be neglected more or less in his grandchildren since their progeny have only 3,12% Red Holstein blood.
